Speaking of “NAPP”y

I would like to thank Don Imus for his idiotic comments and the mainstream media for their enthusiastic dead-horse beating … if it weren’t for them, I may have forgotten to let you all know that I have just recently joined my first “professional association” - the National Association of Photoshop Professionals (or NAPP).

That’s right ladies and gents, I’m unionized, so watch out! Well it isn’t a union, it is an organization dedicated to training its community about the my favorite program, Adobe Photoshop.  Now that I am finally in a job where design work is a primary responsibility of mine (and not a little side project), I figured it was time to get serious about staying up to date on the latest with the program, as well as the thousands of tips and tricks from other users (and magazine subscriptions, etc).

I attended a training seminar put on by NAPP this week and it was EXCELLENT (and only $99!!!).   I am very excited about taking my understanding of this tool to the next level.

That’s cool. So it’s worth the membership fee? I’ve gotten stuff in the mail from them, but I didn’t know if I should bother.

    ‘Sup Trey -
Well with the membership I get a “free” subscription to photoshop user magazine, access to their website (which is pretty cool), and since I joined at one of their seminars, I got the extra bonus of two “free” training DVD’s from their table. Members also get free shipping and handling and special pricing from NAPP partners (like B&H etc).

So far, worth the money, but I’ll keep you posted. Their seminar was WELL worth the $99 - that was a no-brainer. As I was saying, for me, with design work being a primary responsibility of mine now, I need to stay on top of it. Like many others, I’m completely self-taught. While that has always been “good enough”, 6 hours with people who really know Photoshop made me realize how much more that program can do that I never even realized. So I decided to join so I can help close that gap.

David Cross was the trainer, and he was excellent. Not only was he VERY knowledgable, but he is a very gifted teacher. Amusing, fast-paced (but not too fast), organized and well-prepared (obviously he has been doing this for a while) - it was awesome.
