I just picked up a 50mm lens a few months ago and am starting to play around with it. Mine was the cheapo one, but I'm still pretty impressed with the quality of the photos I get from it. He was upgrading to a 40D for his "knockaround" camera - he has a 1D Mark III for the real stuff. Crazy.
